For my mother, she would not have it any other way than to be gifted the ability to still work on her day of birth. 

She is the happiest when she is in the service of others. I honestly believe every year she wishes for one more day of work because she just wants one more chance to gift others with love and kindness. Everyone that knows my mom can see that she has so much fun doing this too.

When I reflect on this past year, I see the spaces where my mom has taught me how much fun one can have in life just by showing up fully as herself.

As I watched my mom go about her day, I saw that her birthday became more of a gift to the people greeting her because her joy exuded ten-fold as she witnessed the happiness she saw in others at having the chance to gift her, the woman of ultimate giving.

My heart filled up with a special kind of happiness seeing my mom smile at me when she walked into her messy kitchen that I hadn’t had the chance to clean up as I attempted to make crepes for her birthday that were half left in the frying pan and the other half crumbled on a plate.

I think it made me so happy because I knew she was joyfully laughing at me. Laughing at my attempt to make her a gift and in the process exploding her kitchen. Haha. It is in this way where I see how unconditionally accepting my mother is. She just lets you be even if you are destroying her kitchen because she knows the intention to gift love and kindness is there.

I am grateful for every moment I have had the chance to witness you fully, mom. I hope to be gifted many more years of your bright presence.
